Design Concept
This refresh honors the room's inherited neoclassical bones by curating a symmetrical, welcoming seating arrangement that draws the eye toward the architectural archway. Warm layers of cream, gold, and navy create cohesion without competing with the ornate plasterwork and crystal chandelier.
Key Decisions
- Symmetrical seating layout — Two facing sofas and paired bergères create intimate conversation zones while respecting the room's formal axis
- Navy medallion rug — Anchors the furniture grouping and introduces a muted jewel tone that complements the warm plaster without overwhelming it
- Tiered lighting scheme — Crystal chandelier as primary, paired urn lamps for evening warmth, and natural daylight managed through existing swagged drapery
- Curated wall gallery — Landscape-centered arrangement with flanking sketches reinforces classical proportions and personal heritage

Styling Tip
Rotate the two front bergères slightly inward toward the coffee table—this "embracing" angle invites conversation far better than rigid parallel placement, while still photographically respecting the room's symmetry.
