Walnut-and-Cream Layered Lighting
The central challenge was a long, slender footprint with dramatic vertical height that risked feeling cavernous or impersonal. The design intent uses a 1960s-inspired material palette—walnut frames, off-white upholstery, and terracotta accents—to draw the eye horizontally and create human-scale intimacy. Three distinct lighting layers (pendant, sconces, globe lamp) ensure the room functions from bright morning through evening, while the geometric rug anchors the seating zone and visually widens the floor plane. The result is a cohesive, livable space that respects existing architecture.
Key Decisions
- Low-profile walnut sofa with exposed frame — keeps sightlines open across the narrow room while providing durable, period-appropriate seating.
- Cluster globe pendant centered on the seating axis — fills vertical volume without overwhelming, creating a focal point that lowers perceived ceiling height for intimacy.
- Geometric area rug defining the seating zone — breaks up the long floor plane, adds warmth underfoot, and echoes wall-art colors for visual unity.
- Sheer double-layer curtains on existing hardware — filters harsh daylight through French doors while preserving privacy and original architectural detail.
