Design Report & Material List

Design Concept

This guest bedroom balances the existing carved four-poster bed's traditional weight with lighter, airier elements—ivory linens, soft blue accents, and warm oak tones—to create a welcoming, uncluttered retreat. The palette and proportions keep the space feeling open while honoring the room's classic architecture.

Key Decisions

  • Bedside symmetry with contrast: Matching light oak nightstands flank the dark bed, visually lifting the room without competing for attention; their simple lines feel modern against ornate carving.
  • Layered, gentle lighting: Linen-shaded table lamps plus a ceiling fixture allow guests to adjust brightness for reading or relaxing, avoiding harsh overhead-only illumination.
  • High curtain placement: Ivory panels hung near the crown molding draw the eye upward, emphasizing ceiling height and maximizing natural light through existing windows.
  • Curated negative space: The luggage rack and bench provide function without crowding; clear floor paths around the rug keep movement intuitive for overnight guests.

Styling Tip

Keep the bench upholstery in a solid ivory or soft blue to let the patterned rug remain the room's single statement; add one small throw pillow in muted red on the bench for a pulled-together, hotel-like touch that guests will photograph.
