## Design Concept
This refresh layers classic cottage warmth onto a clean new-build shell using correctly scaled black shutters, oversized lanterns, and soft pink-white window boxes to bridge the gap between modern construction and the neighborhood's older character. The planting strategy adds depth without crowding the walkway, keeping maintenance practical while maximizing seasonal charm.
## Key Decisions
- **Shutter proportion**: Custom-sized black louvered shutters (15-18" wide per window) visually ground the bright facade and correct the "floating window" effect common on new builds
- **Door saturation**: A rich terracotta-red door (Benjamin Moore "Heritage Red" or similar) creates a welcoming focal point without competing with the crisp white siding
- **Lantern scale**: 20-24" tall fixtures with clear seeded glass cast warm evening light and read appropriately substantial from the street
- **Restrained window boxes**: 36-42" painted PVC boxes with pink geraniums, white petunias, and trailing bacopa repeat the color rhythm without fussy overplanting

## Sizing Note
Measure window height before ordering shutters: they should appear operable, reaching from just below the sill to just below the header trim (typically 63-72" tall on standard windows). Avoid the common mistake of shutters that stop mid-trim, which reads as decorative afterthought rather than intentional design.
