Design Concept
This guest bedroom balances midcentury warmth with cozy eclectic layers, using the existing checkerboard rug as an anchor for a palette of mushroom greige walls, olive, rust, and tan. The design keeps the room airy and restful through soft neutrals with intentional color moments, letting the wood spindle headboard and tan leather reading chair ground the space in authentic period character.
Key Decisions
- Greige wall color (Behr "Mushroom Bisque" or similar) creates warmth without closing in the room, complementing both the red-cream rug and existing wood tones while keeping ceilings bright for height.
- High-and-wide oatmeal linen curtains frame the windows to maximize perceived height and natural light, with simple rod hardware that doesn't compete with the sputnik chandelier.
- Layered bedding with mixed textures—crisp cream sheets, a chunky rust throw, and velvet/linen accent pillows—adds guest-ready comfort and visual interest without clutter.
