Woven-Layered Vertical Warmth
The central challenge of this Living Room is its imposing double-height ceiling and hard surfaces, which risk echo and visual coldness. The design intent layers woven textures—jute rugs, bamboo shades, cane seating, and linen drapes—to absorb sound and introduce horizontal warmth that counterbalances vertical volume. Wrought iron lighting fixtures and stair railing echo the rustic vocabulary while defining zones: the piano alcove under the staircase becomes an intimate performance nook, while the seating cluster below the tall windows claims the room's natural light. The preserved hardwood floors and existing stair structure remain, but their visual weight shifts through textile intervention and fixture replacement rather than construction. The result is a space that reads as evolved and personal rather than decorated.
Key Decisions
- Bamboo shades with linen drapes — The dual window treatment filters harsh high-altitude light, adds insulating texture, and breaks up the tall window wall into a human-scaled grid.
- Wrought iron chandelier and sconces — Replacing prior fixtures with dark metalwork draws the eye downward, reinforces the rustic palette, and provides ambient glow without competing with the windows.
