Design Concept
A soft sage-green envelope with creamy trim creates a timeless French Country cottage feel, while layered perennial beds replace thirsty lawn with pollinator-friendly texture. The design prioritizes low, sculptural plantings that frame sightlines rather than obstruct them, keeping daily arrivals and departures effortless.
Key Decisions
- Right-of-way bed depth: Kept to 18–24 inches from curb to maintain driver sightlines at the corner, using compact varieties (catmint, salvia, dwarf grasses) that won't flop into the street.
- Porch container rhythm: Matching terracotta planters flanking the steps create symmetry without permanent installation, allowing seasonal rotation and easy winter storage.
- Foundation planting height ceiling: All shrubs and perennials stay below 42 inches at maturity to preserve window light and the welcoming openness of the covered entry.
- Painted door as focal point: The muted plum door draws the eye through the garden layers to the entry, functioning as a "destination marker" without additional signage or hardware.

Sizing Note
The right-of-way bed runs approximately 35 linear feet; spacing plants at 18-inch centers allows mature spread without overcrowding. If your strip is narrower than 4 feet, swap the drift roses for compact lavender or nepeta to maintain the layered look without encroaching on the sidewalk.
