Design Report & Material List
## Design Concept
A flexible, phased backyard built around real family routines: defined adult zones close to the house for easy supervision, open lawn for free play, and a contained play area where digging is allowed. The design prioritizes shade, low-maintenance materials, and pieces that can move or grow with your kids.
## Key Decisions
- **Modular pergola with tension shade and string lights** — Creates instant ambiance and afternoon relief without a permanent roof; can be removed or reconfigured as needs change.
- **Sectional sofa + fire table as the anchor** — Encourages evening hangouts after bedtime; weather-resistant wicker holds up to coastal humidity and hose-down cleaning.
- **Raised beds and mud kitchen along the sunny fence** — Keeps messy play contained and movable; no ground penetration required, protecting your septic field.
- **Blue rubber play mat under swing set** — Defines the kids' zone visually, cushions tumbles, and can be rolled up if you relocate equipment later.

## Sizing Note
The pergola spans 10x13 ft to cover both the sectional and dining edge without crowding the patio. If your concrete pad is smaller, drop to an 8x10 ft version and float the dining set partially off the shade line — coastal evenings are breezy enough to tolerate.
