Design Report & Material List
## Design Concept
This backyard balances clean modern lines with desert practicality: a compact turf play zone for dogs and toddlers, surrounded by rinse-friendly hardscape and low-water planting. Every surface is hose-down ready, with subtle drainage built into the layout.
## Key Decisions
- **Grid paver layout with tight joints** — Large concrete-look pavers (24x24") minimize seams where dirt collects; tight gravel joints stay put better than loose gravel under paws and little feet.
- **Recessed path lighting** — Solar or low-voltage deck lights along the walkway edge guide nighttime use without trip hazards for toddlers or cord-chewing risks for dogs.
- **Relocated shed on modular foundation** — Moved to the back-left corner on concrete pavers or deck blocks, freeing the prime corner for seating and improving sightlines from the house.
- **Artificial turf with drainage base** — 2-3" compacted road base + perforated drain pipe underneath lets you rinse pet mess straight through; turf chosen with short pile (1-1.5") for easy scooping and cooling.

## Budget Snapshot
| Category | Est. Cost |
|----------|-----------|
| Hardscape (pavers, base, drainage) | $500-900 |
| Turf + installation materials | $250-450 |
| Lighting + electrical | $60-120 |
| Furniture + shade | $480-800 |
| **Total** | **$1,290-2,270** |
## Sizing Note
The turf patch shown is roughly 6x12 ft — large enough for a toddler play tent or two dogs to wrestle, small enough to stay cool and rinse quickly. If your gate-side slope needs a French drain, add $150-250 for a simple gravel channel and pop-up emitter.
