Design Concept
This narrow backyard channels bohemian warmth through layered textiles, potted greenery, and flexible modular pieces that feel collected rather than installed. The design treats the long footprint as a sequence of experiences—lounge, transition, play—rather than fighting the constraints.
Key Decisions
- Removable deck tiles over existing pavement create visual rhythm underfoot without altering drainage or requiring permits; they lift out for move-out day.
- Asymmetric seating cluster (chaise + loveseat) hugs the fence line to preserve the central path to the gate while still accommodating four people around the fire.
- Mixed light sources—overhead Edison strings, solar fence lanterns, and fire glow—extend usable hours past sunset without hardwiring.
- Vertical tapestry + trailing plants draw eyes upward, interrupting the tunnel effect of the long narrow space.

Sizing Note
The 12"x12" deck tiles come in 10-packs; measure your lounge zone in advance—this layout uses roughly 30-40 tiles (3-4 packs) for the 6x10 ft rug area. Buy one extra pack for cutting around edges; unused full tiles travel with you.
