Design Concept
Curved Wood-Slat Focal Table
The central challenge was a generic, underscaled coffee table that failed to anchor the large area rug and visually connect to the dark hardwood floors. The design intent introduces a rounded, slatted-wood coffee table whose vertical grain and curved silhouette create a sculptural centerpiece that softens the room's rectilinear architecture. This choice maximizes practical surface area for daily use while allowing sightlines to flow through the slatted base, keeping the compact Living Room visually open. The single broad-leaf potted plant replaces scattered greenery, concentrating organic impact in one corner and freeing floor space. Both decisions respect the soft-renovation constraint: no structural changes, only strategic furniture and accessory swaps that reframe the existing shell.
Key Decisions
- Curved slatted-wood coffee table — The rounded form breaks up the room's boxy geometry and the vertical slats add texture without visual weight; at 36-42 inches diameter, it properly fills the rug center.
- Single broad-leaf potted plant in corner — One 4-5 foot specimen near the window provides dramatic scale and organic contrast against gray walls, eliminating the need for multiple small plants.
- Brass arc floor lamp retained and repositioned — The existing lamp's metallic finish now dialogues with the warm wood tones, creating a cohesive material triangle between lamp, table, and bookshelf.
- Light-toned desk chair with wood frame — The boucle-style upholstery and exposed wood legs extend the natural material palette into the work zone, unifying the split-purpose layout.

Implementation Note
Measure your doorway and stairwell before ordering the coffee table: slatted-base designs often ship with legs detached, but the curved top can exceed 40 inches in one dimension and may not pivot through tight entries.
